Richard Hess Appointed New CEROS Technical Director
(Kailua-Kona, HI) The Board of Directors of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Hess as the new Technical Director of the National Defense Center of Excellence for Research in Ocean Sciences (CEROS). Mr. Hess will begin his tenure with CEROS on January 10, 2006.
Mr. Hess brings years of technical management experience to CEROS. His most recent position was Technology Assessment for the Asian Technology Information Program. He has worked as an Associate Director for the Office of Naval Research International Field Office; Science Advisor to the Joint Staff and to the Chief of Naval Operations. From 1997 - 2000, Mr. Hess was the science advisor to the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor where he was introduced to and actively participated in the CEROS program. As the CEROS Technical Director, Mr. Hess succeeds William A. Friedl who retired from State service in June.
CEROS solicits and supports innovative technologies for national maritime military applications and sustained technology-based economic development in Hawai'i. Since 1993, CEROS has funded 189 technical projects for over $71 million. The CEROS program has supported the creation of over 120 technology-based jobs in Hawaii.
